LARVIKITE is a rock named after the city of Larvik in Norway where this rock is found.
Larvikite belongs to the same family of stones (feldspar) as Labradorite and is very popular as a facing stone of buildings throughout the world, including the High Street in the UK and United Nations building in New York City. Thor Heyerdahl was born in Larvik and was presented with a sculpture made from larvikite in honour of his 75th birthday.
Larvikite is sometimes called blue granite or black labradorite.
Larvikite has a natural colour of light to dark bluish gray with vivid silver-blue flashes. It slightly resembles labradorite, but larvikite has more sparkles.
