JASPER is an ornamental rock, which was a favourite gem in the ancient world. The name Jasper can be traced back to Hebrew, Assyrian, Latin, Greek and Persian. This gemstone is often named according to its pattern; Landscape Jasper, the most popular kind, with a small landscape in stone. Ribbon Jasper, Picture Jasper and Orbicular Jasper are kinds with different designs.
Jasper can be found in many countries, and is sometimes used to make bowls and other ornaments, and adorn buildings, like the Saint Wenceslas Chapel in Prague.
