Evaluation of pearls
• Lustre: The shine of a pearl and how well it reflects light. Really fine pearls can achieve a mirror- or rainbow effect. A large pearl is worth more than a smaller one with the same quality.
• Surface: The value of a pearl depends on how perfect the surface of it is, how thick and smooth the layer of nacre is. The less and smaller markings there are, the more valuable the pearl.
• Shape: A perfectly round pearl is considered more valuable than other shapes, but this can vary depending on current trends and fashion.
• Colour: Natural or dyed? Natural colours are more appreciated.
• Size: Bigger is better.
